Imagine this ... 

Your landlady - with more money than sense - strikes out. Infuriated the delivery man refuses to enter through her property gate - for fear of the guard dogs just beyond.

You assure Delivery Man: They'll come up to your face - but won't hurt you. Then hear his voice quiver: Know what happened last time a customer said that?

So, you negotiate ...

See the blue lockbox left of the gate?

You respect a man willing to work with you. If the packages don't fit inside ... how about you leave them on top?

The Landlady's enraged. Talks lightning fast. Gives you a good trimming down: My dogs aren't the problem! Won't hurt anybody. He's paid to deliver to the door. That's his job. He didn't do his job. Call his boss. Tell them you want him fired ...

No room to wedge in a word. No chance to share your point of view. No gap in a never-ending string of random endless rants.

You're Invisible

Annoyed. Frustrated. irritated ...

But -

Determined to find a way to help The Landlady understand ...

You shake your head; talk over her - hoping to get her attention; Everything's always a fight with you, isn't it?

She's startled before quipping back: No it's not!

You jump at the chance to interject before her tirade gears up again: You and I? We come from different worlds. Her eyebrows raise; cocks her head; mumbles: You got that right!

You think the world owes you. You're in charge. Everybody's supposed to fall in lockstep. Her head nods: Got that right too!

You press on -

I? My family? We're different. We know not everybody sees the world the same. Look for ways to compromise. Find solutions that work - for everyone - in whatever situation we're in.

The Landlady turns a deaf ear: You paid him. He works for you. He's supposed to do whatever you tell him ... he owes you.

You're irked. Peeved ... she got under your skin before the words - you can never take back - slip across your lips: You're hateful.

The Missing Piece

Compassion spoke to the Delivery Man. When you understood his dilemma. Made compromises that suited you both ...

Loving-kindness spoke to The Landlady. When you showed her Delivery Man's good heart. His willingness to work things out ...

How empty and out of touch those sound to someone like The Landlady. Mired in that I'd rather be right mentality ... with her life's focus: Money is power.

How reasonable they sound to you. You're waking-up. Creating the new world you're growing into - from the inside out ... with your life's focus: Life can be lived from a deeper sense of purpose.

So much struggling to be said.

No language to say what's on each of your minds. No words to heal the divide. Nothing to connect the loving-kindness between - the bond holding humans together ...

But wait -

You want to wake-up a little bit more ... right?

So -

This One Less-Traveled Road Isn't Finished Yet ...

What no one tells you?

Acknowledge: Grasping for everything can miss that something greater than yourself

Acknowledge: That something greater than yourself - is everything
